Prescription FAQ
Do I need a prescription to order glasses from Bernan?
- Yes, you will need your prescription and pupillary distance (PD) measurement to order glasses from Bernan, unless you're purchasing non-prescription.
What if I don't have my prescription right now?
- If you don't have your prescription available, we recommend that you consult your local eye doctor to obtain a prescription copy.
Can I use an expired prescription to buy glasses from Bernan?
- We strongly discourage using an outdated prescription. An expired prescription may not provide the most accurate vision correction. Regular eye exams are essential for both your vision clarity and overall eye health.
How do I input my prescription?
- You can either upload your prescription directly on our website or enter it manually. Be sure to double-check that all values, including the plus (+) or minus (-) signs, match your doctor's prescription before continuing.
What if I have astigmatism?
- Astigmatism is quite common, and at Bernan we offer glasses for a broad range of prescriptions, including those with astigmatism.
Can I order glasses with prism correction?
- Yes, we offer single vision lenses with prism correction up to 5.00 diopters in any base direction. However, prism is not available for bifocals or progressives.
Can you handle strong prescriptions?
- Yes, we can! Bernan accommodates a wide range of prescriptions. However, for astigmatism (CYL), availability may depend on the selected frame and lenses. Enter your prescription to see what’s available. Our prescription ranges include:
- Single Vision: Sphere (SPH) up to +12.00/-20.00, Cylinder (CYL) up to +/- 6.00.
- Bifocal: Sphere (SPH) up to +6.00/-9.00, Cylinder (CYL) up to +/- 6.00, NV-ADD up to +3.50.
- Progressive: Sphere (SPH) up to +8.00/-10.00, Cylinder (CYL) up to +/- 6.00, NV-ADD up to +3.50.
- Prism (single vision only): Up to 5.00 in any base direction.
What is PD, and why does it matter?
- PD (pupillary distance) is the distance between the centers of your pupils. It ensures that your prescription is aligned with your eyes for optimal clarity and comfort. An incorrect PD can lead to symptoms like eye strain, blurred vision, headaches, nausea, and double vision
What if my prescription has a single PD or dual PD measurement?
- A single PD refers to one measurement for both eyes, while dual PD includes two numbers, one for each eye—first for the right (OD) and second for the left (OS). Be sure to enter the correct PD type when placing your order.
Can I modify my prescription or PD after placing an order?
- Once an order is placed, changes to your prescription or PD cannot be made. Double-check all information before submitting. If you need to cancel the order, contact our customer support team as soon as possible for assistance.
Is it possible to order multiple pairs of glasses with different prescriptions in one order?
- Absolutely! You can easily order multiple glasses with a different prescription in a single order.
